Shipping Policy

At Underhill Worm Farm, we know you’re not just ordering composting worms—you’re counting on them to arrive alive, healthy, and ready to get to work. That’s why we offer a Live Delivery Guarantee on eligible worm orders and work closely with our fulfillment partner, Meme’s Worms, to take extra care in how every live-worm order is packed and shipped.

Here’s everything you need to know before your order goes out the door.

When We Ship

Live worm orders ship every Monday, using either USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground—whichever is best for your area and weather conditions. We don’t ship later in the week to avoid weekend delays that could stress out your worms.

Want your order shipped on Monday? Be sure to place it by Friday at 7 PM EST.

If the weather’s too extreme or there’s a major holiday, we may hold your order for a safer delivery window.

How Long Does It Take?

Most worm orders arrive within 2–3 business days after shipping (contiguous U.S. only). Once your box ships, you’ll receive a tracking number by email so you can keep an eye on things. Make sure to check your inbox (and spam folder, just in case).

Shipping Costs

We like to keep it simple: Free shipping on orders over $50.

Our Live Delivery Guarantee

We stand behind our worms. If something goes wrong, we’ll work with you to make it right. To qualify for our guarantee:

  • Be home or ask your post office to hold your shipment so the worms aren’t sitting in a hot (or freezing) mailbox.
  • Check your worms right away when they arrive.
  • If there’s a problem, contact Underhill Worm Farm within 2 hours of delivery confirmation. You’ll need to provide clear photo and video evidence showing the worms, original packaging, and shipping label.

Please note: Live worms can’t be returned—they won’t survive a round trip.

How We Pack

Live worms are carefully packed in breathable bags and sturdy boxes marked “LIVE WORMS.” Depending on the fulfillment location, they are packed with peat moss or dry wood shavings to help protect their health during transit. They might seem a little sluggish at first, but give them time—they just need to settle into their new home.

Not Ordering Worms?

If you’re ordering worm bins, compost kits, or other supplies (not live creatures), those may ship via UPS or USPS, depending on the item and fulfillment location. Delivery timing may vary.

Fulfillment Locations

West Coast Customers: Our fulfillment partner operates a regional worm hub in Utah for smaller orders up to 2 lbs, with bulk orders fulfilled from a farm in California. This helps us serve customers throughout the western United States more efficiently.

Central U.S. Customers: A central U.S. fulfillment hub is currently being established to improve service and delivery times for customers in that region.

East Coast Customers: East Coast orders will continue to be handled and overseen through our fulfillment partner’s East Coast operation.
